Microsoft acquired GitHub for $7.5 billion in 2018, solidifying the platform&#8217;s dominant position as the primary central hub for storing and collaborating on code.<\/p>\n<p>However, GitHub and similar platforms were built around human workflows, where developers occasionally commit, push, and pull code throughout the workday. The original Git system, created by Linux creator Linus Torvalds in 2005, was explicitly designed as a decentralized network where every developer holds a full copy of the codebase.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the era of agents, centralized Git hosting has become a fundamental constraint,&#8221; Dohmke stated during the preview announcement. &#8220;The strain of billions of agents and developers hammering a central server shows up in the form of rate limits, high latency, or even outages.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>How Entire Rewrites Developer Workflows<\/h2>\n<p>Entire offers a high-speed, localized mirroring solution that integrates directly into existing development pipelines. Developers can mirror an existing GitHub repository onto Entire in a single step without disrupting their existing workflows or moving their primary code off GitHub.<\/p>\n<p>Once mirrored, automated AI agents clone and pull from Entire&#8217;s local, low-latency distributed nodes located geographically closer to the agent processing instances. This architecture shields central servers from high-frequency agent requests while accelerating execution times for automated tasks.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond high-speed code distribution, Entire addresses another critical gap in AI-assisted software engineering: context tracking. Traditional Git commits store the final output of code, but they strip away the reasoning behind those changes.<\/p>\n<p>Entire automatically captures and preserves the full conversational context, prompts, instructions, and decision steps that an AI agent executes when generating code. This context is stored directly alongside the repository files.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside its distributed network rollout, Entire introduced three key diagnostic tools built on top of this captured context: Entire Blame, Entire Review, and Code and Semantic Search. Entire Blame traces any line of code directly back to the exact AI prompt and conversation that created it.<\/p>\n<p>Entire Review leverages this historical context to run automated, intelligent code reviews, while Semantic Search allows engineers to query the underlying reasoning behind historic software architectural decisions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Session logs are now the second most important artifact in software development,&#8221; Dohmke explained. &#8220;And they belong in the repository alongside the code.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Heavyweight Backing in the Developer Ecosystem<\/h2>\n<p>Industry investors have backed Entire with unprecedented capital for an early-stage infrastructure startup. The company&#8217;s $60 million seed round was led by Felicis, placing Entire at a post-money valuation of $300 million.<\/p>\n<p>The investment saw participation from venture capital firms Madrona and Basis Set Ventures, as well as Microsoft&#8217;s venture funding arm, M12. Prominent tech leaders including Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang and Y Combinator CEO Garry Tan also joined the round.<\/p>\n<p>According to lead investor Felicis, the deal represents the largest seed investment ever recorded for a developer tools enterprise. Entire has quickly scaled its team to more than 40 employees spread across nine countries operating on a fully remote basis.<\/p>\n<p>Despite challenging traditional central hosting models, Entire is not positioning itself as an immediate direct competitor to GitHub. Porter highlighted Entire&#8217;s agnostic positioning across all major coding agents as a pivotal driver for growth.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than competing with individual agent tools like Cursor or Factory AI, Entire acts as the underlying fabric that supports all of them simultaneously. Venture firm Madrona noted in an earlier analysis that while GitHub remains crucial, centralized architectures are becoming legacy bottlenecks, making Entire&#8217;s goal to superset GitHub&#8217;s ecosystem vital for future scalability.<\/p>\n<h2>Industry Implications and the Future of Distributed Repositories<\/h2>\n<p>Entire&#8217;s preview release signals a structural shift in how software engineering infrastructure must adapt to autonomous agents. While the startup currently relies on repository mirroring, its strategic roadmap aims far beyond simple caching.<\/p>\n<p>The company announced plans to eventually allow enterprise engineering teams to host new code repositories natively on Entire&#8217;s network.
