Google, through its life sciences subsidiary, is seeking federal authorization to release up to 32 million mosquitoes across California and Florida in a bid to suppress populations of disease-carrying insects. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) confirmed on May 1 that it is currently reviewing the proposal under Section 5 of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act, with a public comment period closing on June 5.
